Schools Thinking Now or Later for Temple

Garrett Temple is one player with a lot on his plate. He’s sifting through several ideas and different roads for his college basketball future; it’s a matter of now or later. With one official visit in the books and two more this month, the 6-foot-6, 180 pound point guard is also thinking about a post graduate career in order to improve his options.
The Baton Rouge, LA native spent last weekend at the University of Oregon for an official visit and according to the LSU Lab HS point guard it was a trip well spent.

“It went pretty good. They were recruiting me as a two or a three but once I got out there and played with the guys I was able to show them that I was a true point guard,” Temple said.
“They have a good point guard there right now in Aaron Brooks and so they want me to go to a prep school and re-recruit me next year. They would really like me to sign a letter or intent in November and still go to a prep school. So the idea of going to a prep school is getting bigger and bigger.”
Oregon coaches were in Baton Rouge on Wednesday and confirmed that the Ducks want to have Temple play the point after all but after he plays a year of prep school. Temple said if he were to go to a prep school than he’d stay open but still keep an interest in the PAC-10 power.
Georgia, Stanford and Arizona have also been talking to him about attending a prep school, according to Temple. The point guard said he has looked at IMG in Florida, Worchester Academy and Wincendon. But for now, he’s concerned with colleges and then he’ll re-evaluate once his official visits are over.
“There is a new school in the mix since the last time we talked,” Temple said. “I’m going to Baylor (on Thursday).”
The Bears are starting anew with head coach Scott Drew, who “is a real nice guy” according to Temple. But their relationship goes back even further than the last month. Temple’s father, Collis, played for Drew’s father, Homer, at LSU.
“(Baylor) said I could come in and play 30 to 40 minutes at point guard in the Big 12,” Temple said. “So that’s enticing.”
Temple will take an official visit to LSU on October 11th and then to Rice on October 18th.
