Schools taking notice of Arizona big man

Marcel Jones, the 6-foot-8, 310-pound power forward/center from Trevor Browne High School in Phoenix, Ariz., will eventually have a difficult decision to make. Jones has a great deal of love and passion for the game of basketball, but has the perfect body size to play left tackle. As it stands right now, Jones is hoping to grow a few more inches and would love nothing more than to make a career of playing basketball.
"Marcel is the type of player that can shoot, score and his outstanding footwork," said Trevor Browne head coach Paul Long. "He was named the MVP of a tournament that he played in last weekend. Marcel missed his entire sophomore year and the first nine games last year because of a broken foot.

"Marcel will play the center/power forward positions in college, but he also has the ability to step out and hit the three-point shot," he added. "He has an NFL type body that is still growing. Basketball has always been Marcel's first passion, so I would imagine that basketball is what he will play in college.
Jones, who has already qualified academically, will spend the spring and summer running with the Arizona Magic White squad. He has already participated in several events so far this spring, but the Arizona big man knows that the month of July will be extremely critical.
Several high major programs are beginning to show some interest in Jones, but he is still waiting for his first scholarship offer.
"Oregon, Washington State, Stanford, California and most of the Ivy League schools are interested in Marcel," said Long. "Some other schools in California are also interested, but he doesn't have any scholarship offers just yet. These are the schools that have expressed the most interest in Marcel at this point."
