Schools Not Dozing on Dozier

In retrospect, Robert Dozier knew he jumped the gun when he committed to Memphis back in July. Now that the 6-foot-8 forward from Lithonia HS (GA) re-opened his recruitment, he is making sure that he knows what he’s looking for before signing on the dotted line.
“I wasn’t ready to make that decision (to sign early) because I only made one visit,” Dozier explained. “I just wasn’t comfortable. I want to make other visits and look around.”

Dozier, who is No. 84 on the Rivals150, said he intends to visit more schools both officially and unofficially once the season is over before making a final decision on his college destination.
“I know I want to visit Miami, NC State and Arizona officially,” Dozier said. “I can just drive to UAB and Georgia (for an unofficial visit).”
Memphis assistants Derek Kellogg and Tony Barbee were in attendance at the Peach State Classic in Atlanta on Tuesday to watch Dozier and his teammates defeat a talented Banneker HS team featuring top junior prospect Octavious Spann. Dozier scored 12 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and had five blocked shots in the victory.
The Tigers aren’t ‘losing ground’ despite some talk that has surfaced surrounding Dozier’s disinterest with them. “Memphis is still in it though. They still talk to me. They’ve always been there no matter what,” Dozier said.
Arizona is a school that has entered into the picture of late but the Wildcats and Dozier have not been able to connect for plans, according to the long and lanky forward.
North Carolina State is another new name in the race. And Dozier is happy with that. “I’ve always been interested in them but they never called me but when they found out I opened it up, they got into the mix. I’m very open to that,” he said.
In the meantime, Dozier said he is just focused on winning a state championship and then he’ll spend more time and energy on the recruiting process.
