Schoolcraft Retools Roster

In addition to Michigan transfer Marcus Bennett (who recently committed to Charlotte) and Wichita State transplant Dion Sherrell, Schoolcraft College of Livonia, Michigan has retooled its 2002-2003 roster with other familiar faces from the Division I landscape.
Former University of Rhode Island player Andre Leroy Scott, a 6-9, 240 pound power forward/center, is one of several newcomers expected to contribute immediately for the Ocelots this winter.

Schoolcraft Head Coach Carlos Briggs informed Rivalshoops.com that Scott spent a year and a half at URI and half a year at Paris J.C. in Texas before arriving at the two-year Michigan school.
Wyoming, Oregon and Wisconsin have expressed some preliminary interest this fall in Scott, who played for famed Head Coach Morgan Wooten at DeMatha Catholic during his high school career.
"He's been getting some attention, but nobody is on him really hard yet," Briggs explained. "He will probably sign late."
Torvoris Baker, 6-6, 210 pound combo forward, transferred from Eastern Michigan into Schoolcraft this fall. He sat out at EMU last year as a partial qualifier, and like several other Ocelot players, eventually hopes to bounce back on the D-I level.
Ronald Dorsey, 6-5, 185 pound swingman, is one of the few returning players from last year's Schoolcraft team that took third place at the national tournament.
Coach Briggs said that Dorsey has solid looks this fall from Central Michigan, Wright State and Detroit. He could possibly sign early.
The Schoolcraft basketball program has enjoyed unprecedented success during Briggs' tenure at the school. In 2001, the Ocelots earned an NJCAA bid and advanced to the tournament quarterfinals before getting knocked out in a pair of heartbreaking losses to Wabash Valley College (eventual '01 champs) and Okaloosa-Walton C.C.
Last year, Schoolcraft went undefeated in the regular season, suffering its first loss in the NJCAA Tournament semifinals to eventual national champion Dixie J.C. The Ocelots handily defeated Wabash Valley in the third place game this past March.
With his rebuilt squad, Briggs is hoping that a third trip to Hutch could be the charm for his program. We will keep you posted.
