Rutgers Also Adds To This Years Roster

Earlier tonight we reported that Rutgers Head Coach Gary Waters received good news from Quincy Douby who committed to the Big East school for the 2003-04 season. Today, the Scarlet Knights also added to their roster for this season.
Adrian Hill, a 6-7, 225 pound small forward who recently received a qualifying ACT score, has signed to join Waters' roster for the 2002-03 season. Hill, who graduated this spring from Canton-McKinley High School in Canton, OH, averaged 17.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.0 blocked shots as a senior last season. Hill officially visited the New Brunswick, NJ campus this past weekend. He was also recruited by Providence, Wisconsin and DePaul.

Rutgers had an open slot for the upcoming season after Baltimore, MD shooting guard Daevon Haskins, who prepped last year at Notre Dame Academy in Virginia, did not meet the NCAA's academic qualification standards. That slot looked like it would be filled by 6-10, 215 pound center Gabe Hughes who this spring had decided to transfer from California. But late last month, Cal reported that Hughes had changed his mind and was returning to the PAC-10 school for his final two seasons of college eligibility.
Coach Waters, who had coached at Kent State in Ohio prior to last season, said, "Adrian was one of the top big men in the state of Ohio last year (who) exhibited a great deal of leadership qualities to lead a very young team to a fine season. He is a terrific athlete and great shot-blocker."
Hill will join 6-7 forward Cortez Davis of Washington DC and the Laurinburg Institute (NC), 6-1 guard Calvin Wooten of Mackenzie HS in Detroit, and 6-9 power forward Harry Good from New York City and Fresno (CA) City College as newcomers on Rutgers roster this season.
Waters, who took over a team that had been 11-16 in 2001-02, led Rutgers to the NIT as the Scarlet Knights finished with an 18-13 (8-8 Big East) record in their intial outing under his direction.
