Russell looking to maximize options

With several low-major offers and significant mid-major interest, 6-foot-1, 170-pound senior point guard Tremayne Russell of South Dade High School in Homestead, Fla., will suit up with the South Florida Heat during the April evaluation period in hopes of maximizing his options.
"Tremayne has offers right now from Campbell, Bethune-Cookman and Stetson, but his number one school is Rhode Island because they are showing the most interest in him," said South Dade head coach John Herron. "They are calling all the time. If they can get a fifth year for one of their guards that was injured, they want Tremayne to prep. If they can't get that fifth year, they are interested in taking Tremayne. Their head coach just needs to see him live."

Already a qualifier with an ACT score of 18 and a 2.7 GPA, Russell also has offers from nearly every junior college in Florida. Worcester, Genesis One and Notre Dame are presently prep school options.
Arkansas, UNC-Wilmington, Winthrop, Wofford and Boston University are all interested in Russell as well.
"Arkansas liked him on tape," said Herron. "They just want to see him live to see if he is big enough."
Named to the first team All-Dade County team, Russell averaged 20 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals per game.
He was played well in the Dade County/Broward County All-Star game, scoring 15 points in a 101-96 victory.
Russell will be in action with the South Florida Heat at the Boo Williams event and the Kingwood Classic in April.
