Rafus on the rise

Roselle (NJ) Roselle Catholic small forward Andre Rafus has been a popular young man lately. A few weeks ago, he picked up an offer from the Kansas Jayhawks. Last week, John Calipari showed up at his school.

Needless to say, the 68th ranked prospect in the 2017 Rivals150 is starting to see his stock rise.

Along with the offer from Kansas, Rafus said USC, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Rutgers, Syracuse and Louisville have been heavily involved in his recruitment.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Rafus talked about John Calipari visiting his school, the offer from Kansas, and what he likes about the other prominent schools in his recruitment.

Kentucky: “I was kind of sick, so I didn’t get to talk to Coach Cal too much. He just let me know he likes my game and he’s going to keep watching me. They haven’t offered yet.”

Kansas: “I like Kansas a lot. I like Bill Self. I like Norm Roberts. Norm Roberts is a great dude. I like how they do things there.”

Rutgers: “I haven’t talked to the new coach yet. I know he made a really great run at Stony Brook. I think he’ll do well at Rutgers too.”

USC: “Coach Enfield texts me almost every day to tell me he’d love to have me there and all sorts of other stuff.”

Seton Hall: “Coach [Shaheen Holloway], that’s my guy. He talks to me all the time. He texts me good morning. We talk a lot.”

Syracuse: “Coach Mike Hopkins came to see me recently, too. I like Syracuse. They have a really good program. That’s where Carmelo [Anthony] went. He said he likes my game and thinks I’m a great fit there.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Rafus plans to spend the new few months playing with Team Melo in the Nike EYBL. When that ends after July, the four-star prospect plans to move closer to a decision.

RIVALS' REACTION

Rafus genuinely seems like a kid that is open to all the schools recruiting him. The local programs have done a great job of developing a relationship with him. The offer from Kansas definitely has his attention, though, as would an offer from Kentucky if it comes.
