Roy Surveying Colleges; Will Elite Schools Offer

LAS VEGAS -- One of the top pure athletes in the Class of 2002 is Brandon Roy of Garfield H.S. in Seattle, Wash., who is here at the adidas Big Time Tournament competing with Team Yes Red.
And Roy (pictured right) has helped lead YES Red into today's round of 32 action. He was terrific in a victory on Friday against the Southeast Raptors, where he used his athleticism as a deadly weapon on several occasions.

Despite a torn left lateral meniscus (knee), Roy pumped in 33 points in a hard fought 81-75 victory over the Alabama based squad.
Roy did it all in the win over the Raptors: he shot the ball well, he defended and he made ultra athletic plays around the rim that the opposition could not stop.
While his shooting mechanics are far from perfect and still need tinkering, Roy is a top notch small forward prospect in the Class of 2002. If his perimeter game continues to improves, then it's conceivable that he could make the transition to the two slot at the college level.
Arizona Head Coach Lute Olson was spotted at Roy's game on Friday night against the Bronx Gauchos, and a pair of Kansas assistant coaches attended his games earlier this week.
However, those are the only two schools to date on Roy's list who have yet to offer scholarships.
Here's the ones he said who have ponied up four-year offers: Boston College, Southern California and Washington.
Roy said he is very interested in UConn, although he admitted that their interest in him is still in the preliminary stages, and as a result the Huskies have yet to offer.
Right now, Roy's top three consists of Kansas, Arizona and Washington.
As a junior at Garfield H.S., Roy averaged 19.2 points and nine rebounds per game. He said he has a 2.2 GPA but has yet to take the SAT.
Roy was injured earlier this summer at the Nike All-American Camp in Indianapolis, and as a result, many people did not get a chance to see him in action full throttle.
And despite his injury, he certainly brought his A game to the Big Time Tournament this week. Roy said the Big Time will be his final event of the summer.
We'll keep you posted on Roy's status and recruitment in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
