Rondo Still Up in Air

Louisville. It’s been on Rajon Rondo’s mind for a long time. He grew up there. His new teammate Brian Johnson just committed to the school. And that’s where the 6-foot-1, 155 pound point guard wants to go too. The Oak Hill Academy (VA) floor general may be taking his first official visit in the next couple of weeks to the Conference USA school. Maybe.

Rondo, who has cancelled several official visits this fall, will likely take his first trip in the next couple of weeks to his hometown school. Although it is assumed that Sebastian Telfair, the crafty point guard out of New York, will attend Louisville, Rondo wants to let the coaching staff know that he’s still available. Maybe that’s why he’s cancelled trips to Charlotte, Clemson and Southern Cal. Georgia might soon be on that list as well.

Oak Hill Academy head coach Steve Smith said his point guard is scheduled for an official trip to Athens on the 18th of October but that could be in jeopardy. Rando may be going back home to Louisville instead.

“If he were to go anywhere this fall (for an official visit), it will be Louisville in my opinion,” Smith said. “But I imagine he’ll sign late unless (Louisville) decides to offer him and then he’d commit on the spot.”

Arkansas and Boston College both called Smith last week about Rondo but the point guard didn’t seem interested in BC, according to the coach. With all signs pointing to a late decision, Rondo could have the benefit of being a highly sought after player in the spring.

“I honestly believe that he’ll be the best unsigned point guard in the country in the spring if he decides to wait,” Smith said. “So maybe that’s why he’s waiting on everything. After November he might be involved with a whole new bunch of schools.”

Rondo is the 73rd rated player on the Rivals150 and is also ranked as the 14th best point guard in the nation. He’ll have plenty of weapons at his disposal this year at Oak Hill, teaming with the likes of Johnson, Josh Smith and Dayshawn Wright.
