Romel Beck Sitting Out

He was one of the top freshmen in the California junior college ranks a year ago, but 6-6, 190-pound shooting guard deluxe Romel Beck is sitting out this year after transferring into Los Angeles City College.
"He practices with us everyday and he will play with us next year," L.A. City Head Coach Mike Miller said. "He is red-shirting for a number of reasons."

Beck played last year at Fullerton J.C., where he averaged 20.3 points per game and shot 38 percent from three point land. Red-shirting this year at L.A. City will allow Beck the opportunity to have a better chance at graduating and fulfilling Division I transfer requirements.
Late last spring, Fullerton Head Coach Dieter Horton told JUCO Junction/Rivalshoops.com that Oregon State, UNLV, Gonzaga, Pacific, Northern Arizona and Fullerton State had contacted him regarding Beck.
Now that Beck is sitting out and has transferred schools, his recruitment will likely swing back open come next summer and fall.
"We are focusing on Romel getting stronger physically and playing defense," Miller said. "People will come back in the spring and next year."
