In a tough matchup with Wheeler on Saturday night in the Georgia High School state playoffs, Brandon Robinson's Douglas County team got beat pretty convincingly, but Robinson certainly showed up in a big way by scoring 27 points in defeat.
North Carolina head coach Roy Williams was in attendance to see Wheeler's five-star small forward Jaylen Brown, but left the game intrigued by Robinson's ability.
"They called my coach on Monday after watching me play on Saturday and invited me down to see them play Duke next week," Robinson said. "Their assistant coach was telling me Coach Williams likes my game and likes the way I play. He wants to recruit me and get to know my family."
The assistant coach Robinson spoke to was none other than former Tar Heel star and former ESPN college basketball analyst Hubert Davis.
"I remember him from when he was on ESPN. He knows a lot about the game. He's a smart, smart guy. He seems like a great coach."
Robinson didn't even realize North Carolina coaches were in attendance until just before tip off.
"I didn't know they were coming. I didn't realize he was there until right before the game. We were actually in warmups and we were all talking about how Roy Williams was there for our game. "
Along with the latest interest from North Carolina, Robinson says Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Creighton, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Texas Tech contact him regularly. Memphis recently started recruiting him, but he does hold a scholarship from the Tigers just yet.
Just last week, Robinson made the short drive over to Atlanta to see Georgia Tech take on another school recruiting him, the Clemson Tigers. The Yellow Jackets had an advantage with the four-star prospect going into his recruitment.
"I actually grew up around Georgia Tech," he said. "My dad used to work their camps all the time. That was the first team I liked for college. It's a school I've always liked and always wanted to play for growing up. It's a school I always keep in the back of my mind because I would like to be a part of getting the program back to the top like when they made the Final Four. That's something I always think about."
Florida State is another program with ties to Robinson. As a youngster attending Georgia Tech camps, he became very familiar with Charlton Young, an assistant coach at Georgia Tech at the time that now coaches at Florida State.
"I think they are building something special next year and in the years to come with their program. The recruits they have coming in and the guys they are talking about trying to get in my class could really help them blow up. I like the competition that would be there and I could learn from the older guys and take stuff away from their game."
Texas Tech is in hot pursuit of Robinson as well, and he likes the idea of playing for a coach with the name recognition and background that Tubby Smith has.
"They were at one of my games in Florida last summer after Peach Jam and they were always recruiting me since then, but then when they came to see workout, that's when they really hopped on me. They came to see me recently to watch a game and call all the time. I haven't really looked into their program much yet, but playing for Tubby Smith would be great. He's a Hall of Famer and won a national championship, and you can't beat that."
Georgia already has commitments from two perimeter players in Robinson's class, but that hasn't stopped the Bulldogs from recruiting Robinson.
"They are on me a lot too. Coach Jonas [Hayes] texts me every morning and tells me to keep Georgia on my mind. He's funny. They told me even though they have the two players committed already that they need a player like me that can come in and play the point and off the ball. They said they would like me to play alongside them and think I would fit in well with them."
Robinson holds over a dozen scholarship offers, but feels like he's putting in the work now that hopefully earn more during the upcoming travel season.
"I feel like with the work I'm putting in now and the grind that I'm on, I feel like I'm about to have a big summer. I feel like a lot of big-time schools are going to start coming to see, so I'm just going to be patient with my decision."
