Roberts makes impressive return from injury

In terms of importance, the spring and summer of a between a prospect’s junior and senior year is pretty high up there. So, suffering a torn ACL last April and having to miss most of the live periods where college coaches could watch him play was less than ideal for three-star point guard Justin Roberts.

Just nine months removed from surgery to repair his knee in May, the 5-foot-10 senior point guard at Lawrence (Kans.) High hasn’t missed a beat. He’s been playing at a high level and hasn’t missed a game during his senior season.

One of the best available floor generals in the Midwest, Roberts recently took an official visit to Drake and he’ll head to Toledo this weekend. The son of Kansas assistant Norm Roberts, he also has offers from UMKC, Loyola (Md.) and Lehigh.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: Roberts talked with Rivals.com about what it took to make such a speedy recovery from a torn ACL, his game as a point guard and the best advice he received from his father.

“As far as my knee is concerned I think I’m good. I’m getting rid of a little bit of swelling but I think I’m good. I’ve been attacking my rehab and got back earlier than I should have so that has been good.”

“I’m a good passer, I attack and get in the paint as much as I can. I’m a pretty good shooter I think and I’m an all-around point guard who tries not to be one dimensional.”

“My dad told me to stick with the process and trust the process. He told me everything would work out in the end and to just focus on controlling what I can control right now.”

WHAT’S NEXT?: After this weekend, Roberts will have used two of his five official visits and he’s open to more programs jumping in. Oral Roberts is expected up soon, Bradley has been in to see him and should be back again soon.

Roberts is looking to see who else jumps in and will look to fit in his other three official visits when he can.

RIVALS’ REACTION: After watching him play post injury, it’s hard to be anything but impressed with the way Roberts has recovered and how quickly he’s done so. Roberts is strong, tough, makes smart decisions and defenders can’t afford to go under ball screens on him because he is a good jump shooter.

The expectation is that he’ll see more schools out to see him soon and we would imagine he will have at least a handful of other offers to choose from before he finishes up his senior season.
