Rivera Will Ink with FIU

Sophomores at Southeastern C.C. in West Burlington, Ia., typically don't ink letters of intent until the spring signing period.
But the Black Hawk program has enjoyed a symbiotic relationship with the Florida International program in recent years, so much so that incumbent Southeastern point guard Filiberto Rivera is expected to sign early with Donnie Marsh's Panther program.

A native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, Rivera is a 6-1, 165 pound point guard. Rivera is one of the better floor generals in the junior college Class of 2003. Southeastern Asst. Coach Tim Walsh told Rivalshoops.com at the recent Illinois Valley Jamboree that Rivera will likely sign in the fall with FIU.
Rivera was impressive at Illinois Valley Jamboree. On top of being a very competent floor general, he's also an excellent shooter from long distance. He has quick hands on defense, although he lacks an explosive gear to blow past defenders on offense and the strength to finish consistently on his drives.
Despite some of his shortcomings, Rivera understands the game and knows how to play at the right pace. He is a very solid pickup for FIU.
