Rivals150 senior Harlond Beverly remains open to the process

WASHINGTON, DC – Slotted as one of the top available guards this winter, Harlond Beverly has remained firm on sticking to the process and not committing to a college entire he seemed fit. A 6-foot-4 playmaking guard that can shoot, finish and defend, Beverly is in no rush with his recruitment.

“I just wanted to make sure my decision was perfect,” he told Rivals.com. “I do feel very comfortable with all of the schools that have offered me a scholarship and I would fill comfortable going to any of them but I just wanted to make sure that after I watch some of the college season, that the decision is perfect.”

Following his team’s win at the National Hoopfest over the weekend, Beverly said that Baylor, Creighton, Georgia, Providence, Seton Hall and Xavier made up the primary group that was hard in the chase for his services.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Baylor: “I know that they love me. They preach that family thing to me all the time. They want what is best for me and they are just letting me take my time and not rushing me. I am just glad that they are recruiting me.

“He (Ekpe Udoh) just wants for me to be as good as I can. He doesn’t care if I become a pro or if I pick his college but rather that I make sure I pick the best school for me and work on my mind and mature, along with being a good man.”

Creighton: “They just feel like I can be a good guard in their program and they have had a lot of good guards come through there. I think their offense is second to none and it is really intriguing to me.”

Georgia: “They started recruiting me this summer but with my AAU team and all of the stuff that happens, they weren’t entirely sure that I could play at that level but once they came down to Montverde and saw me play against other top-level talent, they knew that I belonged and that is when they offered me. Coach (Tom) Crean was texting me before the game about holding my follow-through on my shots and just giving me some pointers and was glad that he could come and watch.”

Xavier: “I love Coach (Travis) Steele and Xavier. They are like some of the previous private schools that I have gone to: Christian based and believe in God, which is big with me with. I like their offense and they like big guards like Quentin Goodin. Coach Steele is a first-time head coach that I feel like is going to be great and very prepared. I believe in him.”

WHAT'S NEXT & RIVALS' REACTION

While Beverly decided to hold off from signing last month, a commitment could be made at any moment. “I feel like I will know that whenever it is right, it is right,” he said. “I don’t really have much of a timetable but I don’t feel like I am really far off. It is just that, I could wake up tomorrow and If I know that it is the spot, then it is the spot.”

Beverly has yet to use any of his official visits but he has developed a strong enough relationship with the schools involved to where a firm commitment could be made without visiting the respective program.

Baylor has garnered some of the talk in recent months thanks to their investment in the Rivals150 guard which is only bolstered by his close friendship with Ekpe Udoh, fomerly attending the school. However, Creighton, Georgia and Xavier have come on strong of late and it would not be a surprise to see more jump into the mix, just as Miami and Virginia did earlier this week by offering the four-star prospect.
