Rivals150 guard Robert McCray talks high majors

Robert McCray was a strong candidate to be a breakout prospect on the travel circuit this year until the pandemic shut all events down. The 6-foot-3 lead guard had a great junior season for A.C. Flora in South Carolina and was going to be putting his combination of size, athleticism and ability to score the ball from the point guard position on full display for Upward Stars this year.

He did pick up his first high-major offer recently from the new Wake Forest staff. He’s had interest from Clemson, Florida and South Florida. Murray State is one of his other offers, and it should be noted this is the same staff that was ahead of the curve signing Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant out of South Carolina.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

McCray discussed his ACC interest.

Clemson: “I talked to them today. I like Clemson. It’s close to home. I went on a visit there one time. It’s pretty nice. I like the campus.”

Wake Forest: “I was on a zoom call with them earlier this week. They said they like my game and think I fit their playing style. Coach (Steve) Forbes was on there with us. I like him. The way he was talking was great. I like the whole staff.”

RIVALS' REACTION

The shutdown put McCray’s recruitment on pause, but he’s looking to take some visits when prospects are cleared by the NCAA to get back on the road.

“I’m not sure how it’s going to play out because of the pandemic," said McCray. "All the schools that talk to me want to get me to campus when this is over. I’m not sure when I’m going to make my decision.”

Look for Wake Forest to be one of those schools to work towards an official visit. If schools are able to watch him play next month through a live stream, don’t be surprised if more schools decide to jump in at that time for the Rivals150 prospect.
