Rivals150 guard Devon Dotson off to a hot start

INDIANAPOLIS – Few prospects are having a better start to their spring than Devon Dotson. Already slotted within the top-50 of the 2018 Rivals150, Dotson has displayed innate toughness, unbelievable scoring abilities at the basket and an excellent feel for the game, all of which has led to recent offers from Miami, Virginia and Arizona.

A 6-foot-2 lead guard that has improved as a jump shooter but is still at his best on the drive to the rim, Dotson helped his Team Charlotte program get back to .500 this past weekend by averaging close to 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals per game. It is because of his capabilities at the primary guard position that enabled for a nationwide recruitment.

Kansas, Florida, Maryland, Villanova, Florida State, USC, Arizona, Ohio State and some others,” Dotson said about those involved. “Pretty much all of them are doing a good job. Schools like Kansas, Florida and Maryland reach out a lot.”

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Dotson broke down a few of the schools in pursuit.

Kansas (on the recent commitment of Charlie Moore): “They said it didn’t change anything. They are going to continue to recruit me and that they can play two guards and we could play alongside each other well.”

Florida: “They said that the 2018 class was a big one for them. They need a dynamic point guard like myself to come in and run the show and help out the team from day one. The coaching staff is very welcoming and it is a great campus. I like it down there.”

Maryland: “The head coach came down last week to see me workout. They are showing a lot of interest and a lot of love and they think that I can come in and run the show.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Dotson will finish out his final travel season on the UAA circuit this summer with the Team Charlotte program. In the meantime, while it seemed like his recruitment was coming to an end, the recent interest and offers brought in have changed some things.

“I might cut my list down after the spring term but I just have to see what new interest I get,” he said. “I would like to commit in the fall but things could change.”

RIVALS REACTION

There is a cluster of lead guards fighting for supremacy as the best at their position in the 2018 class. Dotson is a member of this elite tier and after showing just how effective and productive he can be in April, look for the top programs nationally to remain in the hunt.

Florida has developed a great rapport with Dotson and after a recent visit to Gainesville, the Gators may be one of the top landing spots for the four-star recruit.
