CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Patrick School has been a program that has not lacked for talent in recent years and, after graduating five-star Nick Richards, junior guard Al-Amir Dawes has taken over as the face of the program.

Four programs have emerged in the recruitment of the Rivals150 junior.

“I would say Rhode Island, Minnesota, Seton Hall and Rutgers, those are the main ones,” he said.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Dawes spoke further on the four standing out.

Rhode Island: “They just texted me asking me about how the season is going and making sure that I am good and to get up for a few games. They just want to get me up to a game and see the fans and the campus.”

Minnesota: “They have really good guards out there. Obviously, they have Isaiah Washington, and a couple of players that came from my school, but they are just telling me about the weather down there; it’s cold but you won’t feel it, you’ll adapt to it.”

Seton Hall: “I talked to Jordan (Walker) a lot. I actually go there and hang out with them a lot and watch them practice.

“He likes it there a lot. He is injured right now but before that, he was loving it with the fans and really, everything about the school.”

Rutgers: “I think their guards are playing a lot better as a far as attacking and scoring. Their bigs rebound and are getting a lot better.”

WHAT'S  NEXT?

Walker remains focused on his high school season, so a commitment is not expected any time soon. Even visits remain on the backburner.

“No visits yet,” he said. “I want to get up to Rhode Island but I haven’t really thought about all that yet.”

RIVALS' REACTION

Dawes is already a tremendous on-the-ball defender that brings a competitive chip and hard playing mentality to the backcourt. Capable of making shots but also creating for others, the junior facilitator is not short on value on either end.

Dawes remains patient with the recruiting process as many others are expected to jump into the mix as schools begin to round out their 2018 class. It does look as if Rutgers, Seton Hall, Rhode Island and Minnesota have invested the most time of late as the four should be perceived as early leaders for the junior playmaker.
