Before Donovan Mitchell got on a plane to fly back across the country, Danny Manning and his staff at Wake Forest made sure to put their best foot forward.
It worked out in their favor because the Rivals150 forward from Clovis (Calif.) Buchanan announced via his twitter account that he has committed to the Demon Deacons.
Mitchell told Rivals.com that he chose Wake because of the coaching staff and style of play.
"I chose Wake because of the great coaching and it is where I felt most comfortable," said Mitchell. "Coach Manning told me they like a fast offense and love to push the ball and that's what I love to do."
A 6-foot-8 combo forward who currently ranks No. 148 in the class of 2016, Mitchell has the tools to be a versatile player in the ACC.
Though he must get stronger, Mitchell projects as a true combo forward who could eventually play both the power and small forward positions depending on lineup type. He is a very capable shooter out to the three point line, he is a good passer out of the high post, rebounds his position well enough and has room to add the strength he needs to his frame without costing himself any athleticism.
Now that Mitchell has picked Wake, they have three commitments on board.
The three-star prospect joins point guard Brandon Childress and wing Richard Washington who are also three-star prospects. With their remaining scholarship Wake is hoping to land one of two big timers that they are still chasing in five-star big men Harry Giles and Edrice Adebayo.
I am excited to say I have officially committed to Wake Forest to play Basketball🏀👌🏼#ACC #P.F.M.D- Donovan 〽️itchell (@Dono1421) September 13, 2015
