Marietta (Ga.) Walker school power forward Robert Baker became a hot
name coming out of last summer due to his combination of talent on the
basketball court and his performance in the classroom. Baker takes school just
as serious as he does basketball and, for that reason, the Rivals150 prospect
decided to commit to Harvard on Wednesday night.
"It had everything I could've dreamed for academically and my comfort level with
the coaches and their system was amazing," Baker said.
Baker picked the Crimson over a number of high-major offers including
Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Indiana
along with other Ivy League programs such as Princeton and Penn.
Baker admits he's known for a while where he wanted to go.
"I would have committed back on my visit in March, but I didn't want to make any
premature decisions," he said. "The bottom line is that Harvard can do as much
for me as I can do for them."
Baker currently ranks No. 149 in the 2016 Rivals150 as a three-star prospect. He
joins fellow Rivals150 prospects Seth Towns and Chris Lewis in
Harvard's 2016 recruiting class.
Rail thin at 6-foot-9 and roughly 180 pounds, Baker possesses a unique skill set
for a player at his height. He'll stretch defenses with his ability to make
shots from the perimeter and he's comfortable putting the ball on the floor as
well. He's also one of the better passing forwards around. The next step in his
development will be to add weight to his narrow frame in order to make him more
effective playing in the paint.
