Rice: 2003 Target Unsigned

Maureece Rice isn't your conventional run the show, distribute the ball point guard.
But the pudgy 5-11, 212 pound combo guard from Strawberry Mansion H.S. in Philadelphia, Penn., has become a bit of a legend in the City of Brotherly Love for his scoring exploits.

That was in ample display on Sunday at the Scholastic Play by Play Classic as Rice pumped in 31 points to help the Knights dispose of Sebastian Telfair's Lincoln H.S. squad, 77-73.
As much as there's a certainty that Rice can score, there's as much uncertainty regarding the pepperpot lead guard's future plans. Will he attend college in the fall, prep school or junior college?
According to Strawberry Mansion Head Coach Gerald Hendricks, nothing is for sure at this point as it relates to Rice's future plans.
Hendricks told Rivalshoops.com that George Washington and Miami (FL) have inquired about Rice. Junior colleges like Hutchinson C.C. in Kansas and Hagerstown (MD) have also shown interest. Notre Dame Academy in Massachusetts and Blair Academy in New Jersey are two prep schools that Hendricks cited as having an interest in Rice.
So while he may not know until the spring about his future plans, there's little doubt that Rice will have plenty of options.
Hendricks said that he expects Rice to get his core GPA. The bigger question will be the test score, as Rice has yet to attain a qualifying SAT result in two attempts.
While his decision making and shot selection aren't always crisp, Rice is a natural scorer who can make some jaw dropping passes on occasion. What he does best is score, but he can also find teammates in transition as well as the halfcourt set.
Rice is one of many unsigned seniors that RivalsHoops.com will be tracking in upcoming weeks, so keep it here for the top coverage of the Class of 2003 and beyond.
