Rhode Island scores with four-star point guard

On Friday, Rivals.com wrote in the weekend whispers that Rhode Island was likely leading for E.C. Matthews.
As it turns out, that may have been a bit of a soft sell. The Rams didn't just lead for the No. 92 player, they had him in the bag.

Saturday afternoon, the 6-foot-4 point guard from Romulus (Mich.) High texted Rivals.com to spread the news that he had committed to head coach Danny Hurley.
Obviously, the addition of a top 100 player in the country is a huge win for the Rhode Island program.
Matthews is a hard driving, versatile ball-handler who can run a team. But, his size allows him to play off the ball and help a team spread the floor with ball handlers and get defenders in one on one situations where help is further away.
Matthews is the first member of the URI's 2013 recruiting class but they may not be done with landing Rivals150 players. Currently, there are two more on campus in shooting guard Jon Severe and combo forward Hassan Martin.
Whether or not they land one, both or neither of those guys, Hurley's class is off to a great start for 2013.
