Report: Albany Picks Up Guard from L.I.

Friday's Albany Times-Union reported that the University of Albany's second year head coach Scott Beeten (right) has picked up another recruit for the 2002-03 season. He is Jamar Wilson, a 6-1 combo/point guard from Our Savior New American School in Centereach, Long Island, NY. Wilson is originally from the Bronx, NY.
A cousin of Iona's Dyree Wilson, he averaged 12 points, four assists and three steals per game as a junior last season.

Here's some information about Our Savior New American School from the newspaper:
"Our Savior New American, founded a decade ago, plays an elite national schedule against programs such as Oak Hill (Va.) Academy, Mt. Zion (N.C.) and Redemption Christian Academy of Troy. Our Savior has fielded a varsity team for only four seasons and upgraded to an elite schedule last year, when the Pioneers finished 26-9 and went to the National Association of Christian Athletes National Tournament in Tennessee."The other prospect who has announced his intention to become a Great Dane is JC big man, Neil Barbaris.
Albany, which was 6-22 last season, is entering the 2001-02 campaign as a new member of the revised America East Conference.
