Five-star Reid realizing potential, nearing major offer

For the past few years, Naz Reid has received his fair share of attention.

Entering the high school ranks with a man’s body along with an already developed skillset, there was a lot to like about the Jersey native's potential. Fast forward to the current moment and the five-star center seems to be coming around to just how good he can become.

During his outing last weekend at the Primetime Shootout, Reid put up one of the most dominant showings of the entire high school season. He knocked down 13 of his 17 shots for 36 points to go along with 18 rebounds. In the process, the Roselle Catholic junior looked the part of a five-star center.

Reid is receiving looks from Syracuse, Maryland, St. John’s, Kentucky and Kansas.

While he is still getting accustomed to playing more inside out rather than outside in, Reid’s production has remained up the uptick.

“I just haven’t realized it yet, but the past few games I have. I can be an in-and-out player,” the 19th ranked player in 2018 said. “I just try to play the game with my teammates. I just want to win.”

IN HIS OWN WORDS

A number of schools have remained focused in their pursuit of Reid, one being the local St. John’s program.

“It is a big relationship," Reid said. "They contact every once in a while letting me know how their season is going and that they want me to come up."

Though they haven’t offered just yet, Kentucky has shown interest in the five-star junior. Last Sunday, John Calipari caught a glimpse of how good Reid can be.

“I love their style of play, they all work as a team, everybody touches the ball and they all win together,” Reid said.

Reid then went on to talk about what a Wildcat offer would mean to him.

“That would be a big influence in my life knowing that I have a Kentucky offer," he said. "It would give me more motivation. (In order to receive an offer I'll need to) just to keep playing hard, rebounding and scoring. Everything will be good if I keep doing what I have been doing.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Things are tracking toward a fall signing as the 6-foot-10 center has pretty much every offer that he might like, but as noted, Reid would have to reconsider things if Kentucky were to offer.

Reid is undecided on which travel program that he will be playing with this spring and summer. Regardless, expect the five-star center to continue to cause damage around the basket and cement his standing as a top-tier big man in the 2018 ranks.

RIVALS REACTION

For as good as Reid can be, he can also leave you wanting more.

It has been a solid past few weeks of high school ball for the Roselle star as he seems to be turning the corner with his game. He has the frame to develop, elite hands and passing skills from 15 feet and in and, when engaged, a mean streak that makes him nearly unguardable. Add it all up and it gives good insight as to why Reid is an elite prospect and someone who will be a priority recruit for some of the top programs nationally.
