Recent interest adds twist to recruitment of four-star Chandler

Four-star guard Jay Jay Chandler has been on the radar of college basketball programs for years now. Not too long ago, he trimmed his list down to Georgia, Georgia Tech, USC, Virginia Tech and Western Kentucky.

Lately, there has been a new school involved in his recruitment: Texas A&M. The Aggies are back in the game for Chandler and pushing to add him to their 2017 class.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Chandler talks about recent interest from Texas A&M and more.

Texas A&M: “I like them. They have a younger team. They are just trying to rebuild and get back to where they were last year.”

Western Kentucky: “I haven’t seen them play yet with the new coaching staff, but I know with coach (Rick) Stansbury he likes to push the tempo. He lets his guards go out there and play. He’s good at developing players and getting them to the next level.”

Georgia: “I’ve been talking to them a good bit too. Coach (Mark) Fox’s system, he likes to let his guards have freedom and he plays with bigger guards.”

Georgia Tech: “I talk to them a lot. Coach (Josh) Pastner wants me a lot and he wants me to come in and run the show. I like his system too because he lets his guards.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Chandler is still looking to set up official visits to the schools recruiting him. He’s yet to take any official visits, but says he could very soon. He will not be signing during the early signing period, but says it is possible that he commits at some point during November.

RIVALS' REACTION

Most of the scuttlebutt surrounding Chandler’s recruitment has pointed toward Western Kentucky snagging another talented prospect under Stansbury. Texas A&M’s recent interest could hinder that, but the Hilltoppers still look like the team to beat. Pastner at Georgia Tech has deep ties in the Houston area, so the Yellow Jackets shouldn’t be counted out either.
