Randall staying close to home

The New Jersey Playaz Basketball Club is loaded with available prospects, but one of them, Derrick Randall took himself off the board on Sunday.
Randall, a 6-foot-9, 220-pound center who played at Paterson (N.J.) Catholic High School last year, is headed to Rutgers.

"I love the facilities and like the coaches and players," said Randall. "I really like Mike Rice and his style of play.
"Rutgers is close to home, and my father said he wanted to watch me play in college. Rutgers is close enough for him to drive to see me. Everything about Rutgers was the right fit for me."
Along with Rutgers, Virginia Tech was the other school recruiting Randall the hardest. He also had offers from Providence, Marquette, St. John's, Cincinnati and St. Joe's.
The No. 14 ranked center and No. 131 prospect overall in the Rivals150, Randall was coveted for his solid play in the low post.
"Rutgers wants me to bring my whole game- my hustle, shot blocking, rebounding and defense," said Randall. "Then they want to develop the offensive side of my game."
