Connecticut Select cut into the lead in the third quarter, slicing it to single digits at one juncture. But then combo guard Malik McCullough heated up for the Beasts, scoring many of his 15 points in a decisive fourth quarter run that wrapped up the win for the Beasts.
Guard Sam Payton led Connecticut with 16 points, while forwards Karo Edwards and Bryan Smith each chipped in 10 points apiece in defeat.
Connecticut was without the services of guard Danny Oglesby and forward Charles Easterling.
Likewise, the Beasts, who are also playing in another tournament in New York City this weekend, were without Sam Mejia and David Seals, among others.
The Beasts advanced to Saturday evening's semifinal round, where they will face Sandy Pyonin's N.J. Roadrunners.
