Q&A with 2018 small forward Keldon Johnson

Thousand Oaks, Calif. - Rivals.com caught up with the elite small forward Keldon Johnson during session four the Nike EYBL. Johnson discussed his AAU season playing for Boo Williams, new schools that have entered his recruitment and a timeframe for cutting things down and setting official visits.

Your team Boo Williams finished off strong this EYBL session and you’re headed to Peach Jam, how does that feel?

"It feels great. We’ve definitely been working towards it. There’s been a lot of practices during the week and waking up early in the morning to get better. It’s just everything the team wanted and we worked together to accomplish this goal so we’re real excited to get out there and compete at the Peach Jam."

This is the fourth session of the AAU season, how would you say your game has progressed?

"It’s progressed a lot this spring. I’m definitely using my midrange jumper a lot more in games. It’s been nice to have that as an option in my game now so the defense has a hard time predicting what I’m going to do next."

How’s the whole recruitment process going?

"It’s definitely hit a spike since the first live period. I’ve picked up a few more offers and new schools are showing interest."

What new schools have offered?

"UCLA, Maryland, and NC State has entered the picture again with their new coaching staff. Also UNLV and Memphis and that’s all I can think of right now."

What are some of the other schools that have been staying in contact?

"Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest are the schools closer to home that I hear from and then Texas, Oregon a little bit and Kansas and Louisville are the other schools staying in contact."

What about Georgetown? I know you’re brother Kaleb plays there and there’s been interest from that program.

"Georgetown is still in the mix but I haven’t really talked to their new coach yet."

When do you see yourself starting to cut things down?

"I’ll probably make a list towards the end of the summer and schedule my five officials after that. Once that’s done and I’ve taken all my visits I feel like I’ll have a clear idea of what school is best for me and we’ll go from there."

Do you see yourself signing before the high school season starts?

"I'm not sure yet. I'm not sure if I'll sign during the early signing period or later. I'm just taking my time and enjoying the process."
