Purdue nabs junior point guard

RANKINGS: 2015 - 2016 - 2017
So far, the point guard pool in the class of 2016 looks like it could be a bit of a shallow one. On Tuesday morning, one of the more promising floor generals took himself off the market when C.J. Walker committed to Purdue.

A 5-foot-11 junior at Indianapolis (Ind.) Arsenal Tech, Walker -- currently rated as a three-star prospect -- announced via his twitter account that he was committing to Matt Painter and his staff in West Lafayette.
Though Walker isn't yet the biggest floor general around, he has been steadily growing and his skills and feel for the game are certainly on their way to being Big Ten conference quality.
Very confident and sound in his decision making, Walker is cut out of the mold of a more traditional point guard. He comes down the floor, gets the offense started, makes sure his teammates are in the right spots and then finds them for scoring opportunities. When things do break down, he is a very dangerous shooter out to beyond the three point line and though he is a sub six-footer, he is a very crafty finisher in traffic and seems to have an ability to hang in the air and adjust angles from which he shoots the ball.
While Walker has the tools and intangibles that you would like to see from a high level point guard, his lack of quickness relative to size could be a concern. Often times, guards his size need to be speedburners to help compensate for a lack of height, but Walker is more deliberate and calculated than blazing fast. So, if he doesn't continue get bigger the most important area for Walker to focus on will be improving his lateral quickness.
A member of the Spiece Indy Heat summer program, Walker also brings mental and physical toughness to the table. He is Purdue's first commitment from the class of 2016 and certainly a potential Rivals150 type of talent as he continues to grow and expand his game.
