Purdue lands 2013 Kentucky power forward

Matt Painter and his staff at Purdue have proven that they are willing to be aggressive with young prospects. Saturday, that aggression turned into a commitment from Derek Willis.
Only a sophomore, Willis visited West Lafayette unofficially on Saturday and accepted a scholarship offer on the spot.

"I thought about it the other night and I just thought it was the best decision for me," Willis told Jody Demling of The Courier-Journal. "It's a great academic school and (the coaching staff) are really trustworthy people."
Still relatively unknown on the national circuit, the 6-foot-8 product of Mt. Washington (Kent.) Bullitt East had been generating quite a buzz regionally.
Described as a skilled and versatile frontcourt player who can stretch defenses, Willis is the fourth high school sophomore to commit to the Boilermakers. Already in the fold are Basil Smotherman, Kendall Stephens and Bryson Scott.
