Providence Adds Big Point Guard

It didn’t take long for Weyinmi Efejuku to pick his future home. In fact, less than a day after coming home from officially visiting Providence, the 6-foot-5, 205-pound guard committed the Big East school, according to his prep school coach Jason Smith.
Efejuku, a New York City native who know plays at Brewster Academy (N.H.), picked the Friars on Monday.

Illinois, his other finalist, received a commitment from Chester Frazier after the Baltimore native visited the Big Ten school. The commitment expedited the decision making process for the fifth year prep.
“He really liked his visit to Providence and when he came into my office this morning, he articulated that he was ready to commit to them but wanted a day or two to solidify his decision,” Smith said. “He said he couldn’t wait until October 30 (his visit date to Illinois), so I called them to see if we could move the date up. The Illinois staff was fantastic and straight up, letting me know that they anticipated (Frazier’s commitment).
“I think Weyinmi was 98 percent sure about Providence though. He’s excited about it.”
Providence adds a player that has good versatility in the backcourt and has the ability to ultimately play at the point, says Smith.
“When Tim Welsh came in for an open gym and he saw Weyinmi making passes and setting people up, he looked right at me and said, ‘He’s a point guard, not a combo and not a two guard. He’s a point,’” Smith said.
Efejuku is the second player to commit to the Big East school this season. Johnathan Kale, a bruising power forward is also on board.
