When Buzz Peterson was let go from Tennessee, the Volunteers also feel out of the top spot for Memphis big man Pierre Niles. The burly 6-foot-8 power forward from Ridgeway High School said he was "basically committed" to the SEC school, as he puts it, but now that Peterson and his staff are out, the Volunteers no longer hold the top spot in Niles' eyes.
Now sitting on the list with UT is Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, Mississippi State and Oklahoma State. "There are so many more," Niles says. "I like a lot of schools right now. I'm looking. When they let Buzz go, I knew things were going to change."
Alex Tyus, Illinois Warriors - Playing with a new team this year, the athletic forward is still finding his way with his new group. Nevertheless, athleticism is his money maker and he had his moments against the N.J. Playaz. Tyus said he's high on Arizona, Miami, UNLV, Illinois, Kansas, Arkansas, Syracuse, FSU and Connecticut.
Wayne Chism, Memphis Pump N Run - The big man had a good morning game against the New England Playaz and afterwards the Memphis Bolivar High School product said his top three options are Tennessee, Arkansas and Ole Miss.
Kevin Galloway, God Squad - The good-looking small forward from Sacramento, Calif. rattled off a list that included Georgia Tech, Penn State, USC, UCLA, Pepperdine, Gonzaga, Arizona and Cal.
TreVon Willis, EBO - He had a great game against the Michigan Hurricanes but lost 89-79. The guard poured in a team-high 21 points. Afterwards he told us Connecticut, Kansas, Wake Forest, Miami, Arizona and Washington were tops on his list.
Quincy Pondexter, EBO - His shot is looking better and better and his timetable for a decision is getting shorter and shorter. The athletic guard said Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Kansas and UConn are tops on his list.
Mike McLaughlin, God Squad - The blue collar power forward from Hillsboro (Ore.) High did the dirty work for the God Squad in a close win over New Heights. He's not incredibly athletic or incredibly quick but he made the right plays at the right time. The 6-foot-7 rising senior said he's hearing the most from Oregon State, Oregon and Florida State.
Jarrel Smith, God Squad - The 6-foot-6 wing said San Diego State and DePaul both came out to see him play last week while he says he's still very high on Michigan State and Oregon State and Arizona are keeping in touch.
Isaac Miles, KC Rocktown - The 6-foot-2, 190-pound point guard from Bishop Miege High School said he's hearing from Kansas, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Illinois, Creighton, Georgetown and Texas.
Rahmon Fletcher KC Rocktown - His 21 points against the Houston Superstars wasn't enough to get a win but his clutch shooting did catch our attention. The 5-foot-10 point guard from the class of 2007 said Illinois, Southern Illinois, Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, Kansas, Wichita State, Texas, Texas A&M and Ball State dot his early list.
Don't sleep on me
Jejuan Maxwell, KC Keys - Haven't heard of this 6-foot-6, 210-pound small forward from Raytown High School in Kansas City? Neither have we. We know who he is now. Southwest Missouri State, Creighton and West Illinois dot his list but after his 19-point performance against the Worldwide Renegades and 21 points against High Five West, people are noticing a little more now, too. A good student, good athleticism and good grades is a recipe for a number of high-majors now getting involved.
George Goode, KC Rocktown - This 6-foot-8, 190-pound wing forward from Raytown (Mo.) South High School is a bouncy player that can stroke the three, rebound hard inside and play sound defense in the post. According to his father, George, Sr., Cincinnati, Valparaiso, Kansas, Kansas State, UNC, Wake Forest, Illinois, Southern Illinois, St. Louis, Oklahoma and Texas are all sending mail. A
Kodi Augustus, Houston Superstars - The Louisiana native moved to Willowridge HS (T.J. Ford and Daniel Ewing's alma mater) and he'll bring a nice shooting touch and good size to the Texas school. The 6-foot-8 small forward knocked down a couple of threes and banged inside to the tune of 16 points in a win over KC Rocktown. According to is AAU coach John Eurey, Duke, Arizona, Texas, Florida State, LSU, New Mexico State and Texas A&M.
Charles Tabet, Michigan Hurricanes - He's missing headgear and a singlet and playing the wrong sport. This 6-foot-8 forward is a hard-working, take no prisoners big man for the guard-heavy Hurricanes. Statistically, he won't be mentioned amongst the elite but his presence has been felt in the Hurricanes strong run here in Arkansas. He said he's hearing from the MAC Conference, Dayton, Purdue, Valpo, Central Michigan and Penn State.
