Powell to enjoy best of both worlds

Five-star prospect Dwight Powell had a number of high level academic and basketball options in front of him, but the 6-foot-9, 215-pound post prospect is confident about his pick.
Down to Georgia Tech, Harvard and Stanford, Powell is excited about being a part of the Stanford program.

"The combination of world class academics and world class athletics, and the vision of Coach Dawkins were too much to pass up," said Powell. "Coach Dawkins is moving the program forward. He is recruiting better players and developing his players.
"The position that Stanford is in in the Pac-10 needs improving. I'm excited about the chance to improve where Stanford stands in the Pac-10."
Powell took a methodical approach to his recruitment and admitted that it was a tough process. Now that it is behind him, however, he knows he made the right decision.
"It was a tough decision, but now that it is over it doesn't seem that it was tough," he said. "It is definitely the best choice for me."
A high energy player out of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, Powell took his game to new levels this summer. He is a threat to score inside, is effective facing the basket and is an active rebounder.
The No. 23 ranked prospect in the Rivals150, Powell joins four-star prospect Anthony Brown and three-star prospects Aaron Bright and John Gage in Stanford's 2010 recruiting class.
