Baltimore forward Isaiah Todd, possibly the No. 1 freshman prospect in the country, already has the attention of Duke and North Carolina and has secured offers from Kansas, Maryland, Baylor, Wake Forest, Virginia and seven others.
Todd has been to the North Carolina and Maryland campuses this season. He watched Maryland beat Indiana on Jan. 10.
Capable of posting his man up on the block, knocking down impressive turnaround jumpers from the mid-range and defending either forward position, Todd plays at John Marshall High School and the Team Loaded club program.
“First of all, just to stay humble but to just go as hard as I can go, all the time,” the potentially top rated recruit in the 2020 class said. “I am just going to try and be the best and I will be the best.”
IN HIS OWN WORDS
“At the beginning of the season, I was just a shot blocker, run the floor guy, get easy transition buckets, and shoot the mid-range. Now I play the wing most of the time; I feed the post, shoot the trey ball and rise up above my defenders. But I still block shots and rebound the ball.”
Todd also spoke about the two schools he has visited in person this season.
North Carolina: “UNC came to two of my games. They haven’t offered yet but Coach Roy Williams, I talked to him briefly when I was there and then he came to my game the next week. I love UNC. I always have. I have liked their style of play and I like Coach Roy Williams. They can’t wait to see how I grow as a player.”
Maryland: “I like Maryland especially since it is really a good academic school. It can’t be just about basketball. I like the atmosphere and just being back at home.”
WHAT'S NEXT
Patterning his game after former NBA lottery picks Brandon Ingram and Anthony Davis, Todd continues to track as one of the best the high school realm has to offer. Ready to hit the hardwood this spring and summer running with the Team Loaded travel program on the adidas circuit, the 6-foot-8 freshman spoke further on where he imagines himself in five years.
“I see myself in the NBA, prospering,” the versatile and highly-potent forward mentioned. “I want to win four state championships in high school, a national championship in college, the one year I play in college, if I play in college, and having long career in the NBA.”
RIVALS REACTION
There are many more years before the class of 2020 finishes out their high school playing careers but at this time, it would be safe to say Todd is a top-five prospect. He has shades of a young Kevin Garnett within his game thanks to his evolving alpha-dog mentality, skill set out of the mid- and high-post regions on the floor and mobility as Todd looks to be someone that the bluebloods are due to pounce on in the years ahead.
