Portland Swingmans Recruiting Picks Up

Josh Akwenuke, a 6-4, 180 pound swingman from Westview High School in Portland, OR, has seen his recruiting pick up since the Les Schwab Tournament over the holidays.

Akwenuke averaged 11.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists as a junior last season for a 23-6 squad. He also led Westview with 62 steals.

This season, he's putting them up at a 16 point rate so far. And he's a terrific student who scored over 1200 on the SAT.

Westview head coach Pat Coons said that Akwenuke has heard from a number of Division I schools such as Boise State, Northern Arizona, Loyola Marymount, Pacific, Portland State, Air Force and VMI. Coons said that his top player isn't high on going to a military academy. And a number of Division II schools, such as Seattle and Puget Sound, are also very interested.

Akwenuke is very athletic and has a nice touch on his outside jumper but does need to get stronger.
