Pope has a point to prove

[rl]Set to visit a Big 12 school this weekend, Herb Pope has reshuffled his school list after a turbulent summer. The 6-foot-8, 233-pound small forward from Aliquippa (Pa.) High School is considering six schools and has a point to prove this season after taking a dip in the rankings.
Pope, who will visit Oklahoma this weekend along with point guard Jai Lucas, is also considering Maryland, Pittsburgh, New Mexico State, Memphis and Texas. Louisville and Kansas State are off the list.

With visits to Maryland and New Mexico State under his belt, Pope plans on using all five of his official visits.
"I'm definitely going to visit Texas and Memphis," said Pope. "I'm not sure when those visits are since one of my coaches is handling scheduling them. I don't need to visit Pittsburgh because I'm already familiar with the situation there."
With the week long early signing period beginning next week, it would be impossible for Pope to take his three visits in time to sign early.
"If I can't sign, I will commit before the season begins," he said. "It's time to weigh out the pros and cons and make a decision.
"I just want to go somewhere where I can play my style of ball and push the break, pass the ball and play defense."
On Pope's mind more than his recruitment during his conversation with Rivals.com was the slide in his ranking over the summer from a top ten prospect to a bottom five-star.
"I thought I had a good summer and dominated everyone ranked higher than me that I played against," he said. "I have a lot to prove this year. I want to be in the McDonald's All American game, so I have to prove my name again.
"I don't want people to sleep on my game. My goal this season is to go undefeated and averaged a triple-double."
