Point guard Darius Perry's list of options continues to grow

Point guard Darius Perry (Marietta, Ga./Wheeler) emerged as a legitimate option for high-major programs last summer while playing with Game Elite. Since then, he’s continued to improve and his list of schools has continued to grow.

The newest schools to join the mix are NC State and Seton Hall. Others such as Iowa State, Wake Forest, Alabama, Texas A&M, Florida and Florida State have been involved in his recruitment for an extended period of time.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Perry on Seton Hall: “I like the way they play and how they give their guards a lot of freedom. I watched them play a few times this year. Their point guard is really good. He controls the offense and can score too.”

Texas A&M: “I like how they play too. They had a really point guard in Alex Caruso. I like the way he plays. They push the ball and it seems like they are very well-coached because of how well they play and how good they are on defense.”

Iowa State: “They got Monte Morris and they got Deonte Burton too. They are both really good. I like their big man Georges Niang. They don’t have any super players to me, but they have a lot of good players that come together and play really well. I like that they get up and down the court.”

NC State: “They have a really good program. They have Dennis Smith committed there and that’s good look for their program. They have a really good guard there right now, Cat Barber. He can score really well. He takes some crazy shots, but if he can make them, then it’s all good. They give their guards a lot of freedom. I need to watch them more. I didn’t see them as much as the other schools.”

Florida State: “I like Dwayne Bacon’s game. He’s a lot better than I thought he was going to be. He was more to his game than I thought. The one who surprised was Malik Beasley. He’s played tremendously. He’s got a great stroke and dunks everything when he gets to the rim. I like how they used those guys.”

Florida: “I don’t have a particular player on their team that I like, but they do have good guards and push the ball up the court and then run their offense.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Perry will play with Game Elite on the Adidas circuit this summer. That’s his primary focus for right now. After the summer, he’ll weigh his options, cut down his list and move closer to making a decision on where he’ll play at the next level.

RIVALS' REACTION

Perry seems like he’s genuinely open to all the schools. The next few months are going to be key for him as new schools may come in and schools on his list right now may fall out. Schools making coaching changes, such as Georgia Tech right down the road from Perry, could also become a factor.
