By Wednesday morning, sources close to the three-star point guard who ranks No. 119 in the 2013 Rivals150 were indicating that he was a done deal to Pitt. Then, Newkirk let everybody know an afternoon announcement was coming.
Finally, Newkirk did what was expected and announced that he would be a Panther.
One of the nation's top athletes at the point guard position, Newkirk can get to the hole in a hurry. He's strong to the rim, can really push the tempo in transition and has the tools to be an outstanding defender.
An excellent change of pace/compliment to current Pitt freshman James Robinson, Newkirk does have some work he needs to do. He can be a bit wild at times and he has to continue to improve his jumper to make defenders be more honest with him.
Newkirk joins four-star power forward Mike Young to make up Pitt's early recruiting class.
