Pinnock Reopens Recruitment

J.R. Pinnock, a 6-5, 200 pound swingman from Coastal Christian H.S. in Virginia Beach, Va., has decided to reopen his recruitment and sign late.
Rivalshoops.com first reported this news over the weekend, and followed up this week with Coastal Christian Head Coach Walt Webb.

"He did verbally commit to Wichita State, but it didn't go over as well as he planned," Webb said. "He sat down after he came back and realized that he was a bit anxious in telling them that he wanted to go, and he didn't visit anywhere else, so he wanted to make sure he was making the right decision."
"He made that decision without really conferring with his parents," Webb continued. "His parents are hoping that he'll explore other options closer to home if possible."
In recent days, Webb said he has been contacted by Georgia State, Stanford and Wyoming this week regarding Pinnock.
"It's just a matter of people getting a chance to see him play," Webb said. "I think a lot of people will get to see him this weekend at the War on the Shore."
Webb said that Wichita State backed out of the recruiting process after Pinnock declined to sign with the Shockers this fall.
A big winter at Coastal Christian could boost Webb's stock this winter.
"JR shoots the basketball well and he rebounds well," Webb said. "He's a slasher and great shot blocker who is starting to score more because he's learning how to use screens, and he has great elevation on his shot."
Webb said that Pinnock must work on his defensive intensity, which tends to wane as the game progresses, and learn to pace himself and not rush things on the offensive end.
"He can get to the rack off the dribble, and when he elevates in the halfcourt and in transition, he's up there by himself," Webb said. "Plus he really elevates on his jump shot."
Rivalshoops.com will catch Pinnock and Coastal Christian in action this weekend at the War on the Shore, and we will let you know how Pinnock does, so stay tuned.
