Phillip finds fit at CAA school

Kevin Phillip, a 6-foot-7, 185-pound power forward from Bishop Loughlin in New York, will take his game to the CAA. The three-star prospect committed to Drexel on Sunday.
"I feel really confident in (coach) Bruiser (Flint). He reminds me a lot of my high school coach at Laughlin," Phillip said. "They were always straight up with me and were serious about what they said. A lot of coaches just wanted to talk about basketball but they were worried about me as a student and how my academics were doing. They wanted to know more about me as a person, not just about basketball. That made me feel comfortable."

Phillip gives the Dragons an athletic, hard-working big man that can play multiple positions on the hardwood.
"He said he sees me coming in and helping them both offensively and defensively," Phillip said. "They see me as a guy that can play more of the four and the three. With the Gauchos (his AAU team), I had to play the five and the four but at Drexel, I think I can show my abilities as a player and show a little more about what I can do."
Phillip said he also considered Marist, West Virginia, George Washington, UMass, Charlotte, Hofstra, Temple and UNLV. He joins Philadelphia area wing Sam Givens in the class of 2008. Phillip teammate James Johnson committed to Quinnipiac over the weekend, too.
