PG Has Many High Majors Interested

One of the top point guards in the class of 2004 has recently seen a pickup in his recruiting process. Kyle Lowry, an offensive minded 5-10, 170 pound junior point guard from Cardinal Dougherty H.S. in Philadelphia, PA, is one of the best in producing points from the lead guard position and many big name programs are noticing.

The most recent high major to express serious interest in Lowry's skills are the Syracuse Orangemen, a program known to produce talented lead guards under the leadership of head coach Jim Boeheim.

Lowry, who transferred into Cardinal Dougherty H.S. this fall after spending the past two years at highly successful public school program Northeast H.S., previously told us he made the move due to academic concerns and a chance to get more exposure. He will get plenty of exposure this season.

How will he get that exposure? Well, Dougherty High School is expected to play at both the Slam Dunk to the Beach Tournament in Delaware and the Prime Time Shootout in New Jersey. Both of these events are considered among the best during the high school season. So Lowry will have many eyes (coaching eyes that is) set upon him when he plays at these events. Lowry previously told us that he had an early interest in LaSalle, St. Joseph's, Temple, Boston College, Providence, Vanderbilt and Tulsa. But Syracuse is one of many high majors that will scout Lowry and his skills this season.

As a sophomore last year at Northeast, Lowry averaged 20 points, five rebounds, seven assists and six steals per game.

RivalsHoops.com has had a chance to watch Lowry play with both the MJC/Philadelphia Patriot and Sam Rines programs over the past few months. Lowry is an effective player thanks to his speed and scoring ability. It's just that he's not a prototypical point guard in that he has a scorer's mentality in a small frame.
