No leaders for Peters
Earlier this week, there was a question in our Rivals.com mailbag about whether or not Maryland was in the lead for four-star point guard Roddy Peters.
On the heels of his official visit to College Park earlier this week to meet with Mark Turgeon and his staff, Rivals.com caught up with the 6-foot-4 point guard from District Heights (Md.) Suitland.
"It went real good," Peters told Rivals.com of the visit. "We talked about my recruiting, where I would play at and how they would use me in the pick and roll and stuff like that."
However, Peters wouldn't list the Terps as his leader right now and says that he is still open.
"I'm wide open," Peters said. "People try to say that Maryland leads because they are right up the street, but I'm open to everybody right now."
That everybody that Peters is open to includes Georgetown, Xavier, UCLA, Memphis and Rutgers at the moment.
Rather than speak in specifics about each school, Peters has a broader focus for now.
"The thing I like about all the schools that I’ve chosen is the people they have there as coaches and players," Peters said. "I feel like I have strong relationships with all of them."
Currently, Peters is in the process of setting up visits and hopes to have them locked in soon. Then, he'll look to get into more specifics with each program.
"I haven't really talked about that stuff," said Peters of how each school is tailoring their approach to him. "That's what the visits are for."
Agau pondering more than just college decision
Four-star big man Akoy Agau has a lot on his mind these days.
Ranked No. 90 in the 2013 Rivals150, the 6-foot-9 power forward from Omaha (Neb.) Central isn't just weighing a boatload of college scholarship offers. Agau is deciding whether or not he'll finish off his high school career trying for a fourth state title at Central or if he'll move on to a place like Rockville (Md.) Montrose Christian or possibly Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep.
The senior-to-be confirmed to Rivals.com that he's considering a move because he feels that a move to national level program and the additional competition he would face could help prepare him for college. At the same time, though, Agau also likes the idea of potentially making history in his home-state and isn't sure he's ready to leave home just yet.
On the college front, Agau also admitted that he’s starting to feel heavy pressure from the locals to stay home and help revive the Nebraska basketball program.
"It's crazy," said Agau of the pressure from locals to stay home. "I've got kids who are Huskers fans and parents who are Huskers fans. Fans, teammates, I'm in the paper and it's in the paper about how they just got two players and now they need to get me to get things turned around."
Agau is certainly intrigued by the idea of turning things around, but also knows that it will take more than one player to get things headed in the direction Husker fans want.
"It's definitely appealing," Agau said. "But it's not that easy for one player to just go and turn around the program. That's the Big Ten, they don't play, they are grown men. I can't just go there my freshman year and they'll be all great just because of me."
Although he hasn't cut his list down quite as far as he would like to just yet, Agau is starting to narrow his focus a little bit. Georgetown is another program he holds in high regard along with the Huskers. Agau says that he's likely to visit them along with Louisville and West Virginia officially.
But before he can make his college choice, Agau has to make a decision on his senior year with classes beginning at Central next week.
Weekend decision for Oklahoma shooting guard
The process of making a college decision will be over pretty soon for Juwan Parker.
In fact, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Tulsa (Ok.) Booker T. Washington will announce his college choice on Sunday.
Currently ranked No. 117 in the 2013 Rivals150, Parker is down to Georgia, Memphis and Stanford. While he won't give any hints as to where he's leaning, Parker did give some thoughts on each finalist with his decision just a few days away.
Georgia- "It feels close knit and family oriented. I have an awesome relationship with the staff and they have great academics."
Memphis- "I feel close to the staff. It's relatively close to home and I have lots of family in the area."
Stanford- "The academics are second to none. Coach Dawkins is really doing special things there."
Tip-ins
* One of the best shooters in the class of 2013, four-star forward Reggie Cameron is down to six schools. The New Jersey product's summer coach-- Jimmy Salmons of the Playaz Basketball Club -- confirmed that Cameron is down to N.C. State, Connecticut, Michigan, Miami, Seton Hall and Georgetown. The 6-foot-7 net-stripper took an unofficial visit to Raleigh last week and just completed a visit to Storrs. Cameron plans to visit Georgetown before Labor Day and is in the process of setting up September official visits to Ann Arbor and Coral Gables.
* Down in Dallas, junior small forward D'Angelo Allen has been making a name for himself. Ranked No. 72 in the class of 2014, the 6-foot-6 small forward’s summer coach Erven Davis says that Allen has now accumulated offers from South Carolina, North Texas, UT-Arlington, Texas, Oregon, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, SMU, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Oklahoma State and Providence. Others showing major interest include Maryland, TCU, Georgetown, Minnesota and LSU. According to Davis, Evans plans to visit local and state schools in the fall.
Also attracting more and more attention from Dallas Showtyme is shooting guard Nick Babb. The younger brother of Iowa State shooting guard Chris Babb, the three-star shooting guard has offers from UT-Arlington, Utah State, Creighton and Rice. Additional interest is coming from Iowa State, Texas A&M, Houston, SMU, Texas and TCU. Babb has already been on the campus of Texas A&M and is currently checking out Iowa State while he visits his brother in Ames.
* A five-star point guard with quickness and elusiveness off the dribble, Anthony Barber is also a bit elusive to track down for interviews. However, it looks like the product of Hampton (Va.) High is in the process of getting his official visits set up. At the moment, it looks like he'll be on the move each of the first three weekends of September with visits tentatively set up (but not set in stone) to N.C. State, Louisville and Kansas. The other finalist, Alabama, received an unofficial visit in June but a date for an official hasn't been set.
* Speaking of Alabama, Anthony Grant and his staff have been busy on Thursday. The Crimson Tide hosted an unofficial visit from class of 2013 four-star small forward Troy Williams. Class of 2015 teammates Austin Grandstaff and Elijah Thomas were also on campus. Grandstaff is a 6-foot-4 combo guard, while Thomas stands at 6-foot-8 and plays power forward.
