Peters one to watch out west

There hasn't ever been much question about the athletic ability of junior combo guard Bryce Peters. Now, he's showing off a much more complete game.
For a while, the 6-foot-2 junior at La Verne (Calif.) Damien was on the sideline with an injury. But, the entire time, Peters was chomping at the bit to get back and prove to people that he's more than just a designated perimeter athlete while he works himself back into shape.
"I think I've improved on my defense," Peters said. "I just came off of injury. I fractured my foot not too long ago so I'm trying to get my conditioning back up. Communication-wise, I'm trying to be a leader and a coach on the floor."
More than capable of breaking down defenders off the dribble thanks to an explosive first step and good handles, Peters strength is getting into the lane and causing trouble. However, his ability to demand respect of defenders from deep with his jumper and that he is equally good on the defensive end has gotten college coaches fired up about his potential.
So far, the three-star prospect reports offers from Arizona State, Wyoming, UTEP, Utah State, Pepperdine and San Francisco. San Diego State and USC are also keeping close tabs and Andy Enfield and the Trojans have put themselves in good position if they do offer.
"I feel like USC has really stepped it up," said Peters. "My former teammate Jordan McLaughlin goes there. I like their guard play, they play a fast paced game and the coaching staff is pretty good."
Peters says that he isn't in any kind of rush to make a decision and that he is most likely eyeing a decision for the fall of his senior season. When he does make his pick, he is going to be looking closely at the defensive side of things.
"Location and setting isn't a big deal," said Peters. "Defensively is a big part of what I'm looking at. Defenses win championships and offense wins regular games. A strong defensive team would be tremendous."
