The Penn State basketball program received huge news on Monday when four-star point guard Tony Carr announced during a press conference that he would play his college basketball for Pat Chambers and his staff.
A 6-foot-4 product of Philadelphia (Pa.) Roman Catholic who ranks No. 53 in the class of 2016, Carr is the highest ranked player to pick the Nittany Lions under Chambers watch. Not only that he's the highest ranked player to ever pick Penn State since Rivals.com began ranking and evaluating high school prospects.
The first four-star prospect to pick Penn State during the Rivals era, Carr is huge pickup for Penn State on many levels.
The most important thing is that Carr can really play. He's got terrific size for the point guard position and is very tough when attacking the rim off the dribble. Carr gets others involved, has the versatility and size to play anywhere along the perimeter and he's both physically and mentally tough.
Chambers and his staff have been working hard to set up a pipeline into Philadelphia and Carr is a huge result of that work. By landing him, they've made a statement that they can now go into Philly and compete for the top players in the city.
With Carr in the fold, Penn State is off to a very good start in 2016. Carr joins three-star guard Nazeer Bostick (a high school and summer teammate) as well as Rivals150 combo forward Joe Hampton.
Chambers and his staff still have room to add more talent and they will now turn the bulk of their focus to another Philly player, Lamar Stevens. The four-star prospect is another high school and summer teammate of Carr and Bostick and is heavily considering Penn State.
