Pac-10 Signee Going North

Marquis Kately, a very athletic 6-5, 200 pound swingman from Archbishop Riordan H.S. in San Francisco, Calif., has committed to California and will attend prep school in the fall.
According to his mother Cheryl Phillips, Kately committed to California on Friday, picking the Golden Bears over Utah and Fresno State. He will attend Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Me., next fall, and then enroll at Cal in the fall of 2003.

"He wanted to stay in the region and stay close to home," Phillips said. "He wanted to play for Coach Majerus, but he didn't want to go to Utah. He figured he could handle Maine for a year and come back home."
Kately will not sign a national letter of intent with Cal this spring, his mom said. He will sign one next year with Cal when he is at MCI.
Mrs. Phillips said she is going through the application process with MCI right now, and anticipates that her son will attend the New England prep power in the fall.
If that is the case, Rivalshoops.com will stay on top of Kately next winter, as we will once again do a thorough job of covering the New England prep ranks.
