Pac - 10 Schools Interested In Ward

Gary Ward has not spent much time focusing in on his recruitment as of late. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound point guard from Mount Tacoma High School in Tacoma, WA., is more concerned about becoming qualified academically, which is why he has been preparing for the SAT test. Ward realizes he is not permitted to schedule any official visits until a test score has been recorded.
“Everything is going fine right now with Gary,” Mount Tacoma High School Head Coach Owen Chambers said. “He has not yet scheduled any in-home or official visits because he is still studying for the SAT test. I believe Gary is going to take the test in May or October, but I don’t know for sure which date it is.”

Not many high major programs are in the market for a 5-foot-11 point guard, but a handful of Division One schools have expressed an interest in the Washington native. Ward hopes to receive more attention during the summer AAU circuit, as he will be traveling to most of the more recognizable events.
“Oregon and Oregon State are expressing the most interest in Gary right now,” Coach Chambers said. “A lot of other schools have inquired about Gary, but Oregon and Oregon State have been the most consistent. I think it’s a situation where he is more concerned about his academics right now, so he is really concentrating on that.”
There is no doubt that Coach Chambers feels his point guard could be an impact player at the high major level.
“Yes, Gary has been pretty solid for us this year,” Chambers told RivalsHoops.com. “He has really been a pleasant surprise with his actions out on the court. He has pretty good point guard skills, has a good handle with the basketball and is a decent shooter. We’re 19-2 overall and Gary has played a key role in the success we’ve had this year.”
