Oregon State Lands A JUCO

Kerbrell Brown, a 6-7, 210 pound small forward from Dodge City C.C. in Dodge City, Kan., has committed to Oregon State.
Dodge City Head Coach Brian Hoberecht told JUCO Junction/Rivalshoops.com that Brown picked the Beavers after visiting the Corvallis campus this fall.

Oregon State was the only school to offer Brown early, although Hoberecht had inquiries from Colorado State, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas and Alabama-Birmingham regarding Brown.
"Without question, he felt the deciding factor for him was Coach [Ritchie] McKay," Hoberecht said. "He really trusts him and believes that Coach McKay can make him a better basketball player and motivate him. He was really excited about playing for Coach McKay and felt very comfortable in Corvallis."
Brown was one of the better freshmen that JUCO Junction watched at last December's Jayhawk Shootout in Coffeyville, Kan. Blessed with a rugged frame and adequate ball handling ability for his size, Brown was very adept at scoring off the dribble for Dodge City.
However, he only played in the first half of the season last year for the Conquistadors after running into some academic shortcomings at Dodge City. He averaged nine points and four rebounds per game last season in roughly 12 contests.
Since last year, Brown has enjoyed a growth spurt, and now stands at 6-7 and 210 pounds, according to Hoberecht. Last year at Dodge City, he played at about 6-5 and 190 pounds.
"Kerbrell has the ability to influence the game in a lot of different ways," Hoberecht said. "He is explosive off the bounce and can create his own shot, and he has significantly improved his low post game in the past year."
Hoberecht said that Brown will probably play the four position this season at Dodge City, even though his most likely home will be the three slot at the Division I level.
Despite his academic shortcomings a year ago, Brown has a chance to graduate in the spring, Hoberecht said. The key to that is Brown having a productive fall semester in the classroom.
JUCO Junction/Rivalshoops.com will keep you posted on Brown's progress this season at Dodge City, so stay tuned.
