Oregon State Keeps Field Holt

Oregon State announced the hiring of its new men's basketball head coach, Jay John, who had been an assistant at Arizona since 1998, on April 9th.
John, in the press conference, indicated that he would be meeting with the three recruits, and their families, who were signed by the previous coaches in the fall: Kerbrell Brown, Kevin Field and Justin Holt.

As Russ Blake reported Sunday, the Beavers are going to release Brown. In an interview with Corvallis Gazette-Times reporter Brian Hatch, OSU assistant coach Brian Loyd said the other two, Field and Holt, are expected to be part of the OSU program next season.
Brown, a 6-7, 210 pound forward from Dodge City C.C. in Dodge City, Kansas, has not received the school's offical release from his National Letter of Intent but that formality is expected shortly.
A native of New Orleans, Brown averaged 15.8 points and six rebounds per game as a sophomore this past season for the Conquistadors. No schools are officially involved with Brown since the NLI rules preclude that until the release is given. Some of the schools who recruited the small forward prior to his decision to sign with OSU were UAB, Baylor, Colorado State, Oklahoma State and Texas.
OSU now has three scholarships available for the spring signing period. Luke Mackay, 6-2, 190 pound combo guard from Lon Morris Junior College in Texas verbally committed to ex-coach Ritchie McKay. Mackay, who is orginally from Australia, had a short season because of a broken wrist suffered at the start of the year. He averaged 6.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game this past season after missing 22 games. Lon Morris Asst. Coach Rick Dotson told Russ Blake earlier this month that New Mexico is in the mix with OSU for this guard's services.
