Oregon adds to its backcourt with Amauri Hardy

Placing his name into the Transfer Portal last month, UNLV guard Amauri Hardy has decided on where he will complete his college career. A graduate-transfer that will be immediately eligible in the fall, Porter committed to Oregon on Sunday.

WHO IS HE?

A former three-star prospect from the Detroit, Michigan area, Hardy selected UNLV over a handful of high-major suitors in the spring of his senior year. He immediately left an imprint on the MWC program as a freshman in which he appeared in 33 games, all while averaging close to 19 minutes per game.

More of a scoring guard than playmaker, Hardy saw his numbers improve greatly during his sophomore season. Such progressions were seen again this past season in which he started 30 of the 32 games that he played within. He went onto to average 14.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and made 33-percent of his 3-point attempts. He is also the older brother of five-star junior guard Jaden Hardy.

HOW HE FITS IN

Oregon had remained silent for the majority of the fall and winter but they have begun to pick things up of late. Last week, Saint Peter’s guard and MAAC Rookie of the Year Aaron Estrada committed to the Ducks, though he will sit out the upcoming season due to transfer restrictions.

Hardy, on the other hand, is immediately eligible in the fall with one final season of eligibility to be played. A 6-foot-2 combo guard that can play on and off of the ball, he is best used in a scoring capacity which is one that he could be allotted in Eugene.

The Ducks will lose a program great in Payton Pritchard this spring to graduation and also Anthony Mathis. Addison Patterson, Chris Duarte and Will Richardson are all slated to return, while they will also enroll four-star guard Jalen Terry, someone that can be used on the ball as a primary playmaker which would allow for Hardy to rely on his scoring to impact the game the greatest.

Hardy is a proven scorer that averaged 14 points per game in his two contests last season against Pac 12 foes. He enhances Oregon’s roster and gives Dana Altman an immediate cog along the perimeter that can fill a variety of holes. Eugene Omoruyi and Eric Williams will be eligible in the fall after sitting out last season which amounts to an Oregon team that is on path towards another NCAA Tournament berth and will be in position to compete for a Pac 12 title.
