Ole Miss has continued to remake its roster thanks to the Transfer Portal this offseason. Samford transfer Robert Allen committed to the Rebels on Tuesday, picking the SEC program over Illinois State, Mississippi State and New Mexico.
“It is a good fit. They have a great academic program and a wonderful coaching staff that is a new place that feels like home to me,” Allen told Rivals.com. “I think that Kermit (Davis) is an amazing coach. He has a phenomenal personality and I just love how they play, get after it and how they all do it together. I felt like it was a family and it was like home.”
A lightly recruited prospect out of high school, Allen has flourished since beginning his college career two years ago. Standing over 6-foot-8 and with the strength to impact the game around the basket, but an evolving face-up game that has begun to see him make shots to the perimeter, Allen is someone that brings great versatility and size to either frontcourt spot.
Slated to sit out next season, though there is a chance that he could play immediately depending on the one-time transfer rule that could be passed next month, regardless, Allen will impact the SEC program whenever he sees the floor next. He has started all but two of the 65 games that he has played in over the past two years and has averaged over 32 minutes per game throughout his underclassman seasons.
Coming off a season in which he averaged 14.1 points, seven rebounds, 1.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game, Allen could ultimately become the replacement for Khadim Sy in the frontcourt. Earlier this month, Rider graduate-transfer Dimencio Vaughn committed to the Rebels. The two will enroll in the fall alongside incoming freshman Matthew Murrell and Marcus Niblack.
