Ole Miss Picks Up Another Big Man

Ole Miss has picked up their third front court player in the class of 2005 with the commitment of Marquis Young. The 6-foot-9, 275-pound power forward from Austin High School in Chicago, Ill., also had offers from several other high majors.
“The big reason I committed to Ole Miss is because I’ve know Assistant Coach Tracy Dildy since I was in the fourth grade,” said Young. “He is a good guy, and we have a great relationship. He was recruiting me last year when he was at Auburn.”

Young chose Ole Miss over Purdue, Seton Hall, Kentucky, and Auburn. Kentucky was the only the school that had not offered.
Along with Coach Dildy, Head Coach Rod Barnes and the location of Ole Miss were also attractive to Dildy.
“I got a chance to go down there earlier this year for a camp,” he said. “I really like the campus. Plus, I have a lot of relatives close by in Memphis.
“I’ve also had a chance to meet Coach Barnes, and he seems like a nce guy and someone I’d like to play for.”
Joining front court commitments Trey Hampton and Carl Swanigan, Young feels he has a chance to get some early playing time at power forward.
“I should get a good opportunity for early playing time,” he said. “They are planning on playing me at the four.”
